Press Release 08/15/08
STATEMENT REGARDING HAPPY
HOUR IN WILTON MANORS
Fort Lauderdale, Florida – August 15, 2008 - The owners and management of Sidelines Sports Bar have recently been made aware of an unsubstantiated report of the intentions of the City Council of Wilton Manors to pass a bill which will eliminate “Two for One” cocktails and the long-standing tradition of “Happy Hour” on Wilton Drive. We believe that during these trying economic times this is not the appropriate solution for our community and we will vigorously fight any effort made by government, city or local business associations or officials to advance this short-sighted plan. “Our customers and loyal patrons are amongst the pillars and anchors of Wilton Manor’s blossoming “gay Mecca” and are largely responsible in making Wilton Manors the third top ranked Florida community in the Gay/Lesbian market.1 We do not think they should carry the burden for the fiscal decline of a few”, stated Laurie Whittaker and Marty Kildea, owners of Sidelines. According to the Mayor of Wilton Manors, Scott Newton, in a recent conversation he had with Mr. Kildea, there was no such bill that Mayor Newton was privy to at all, nor had he heard of such a thing. We will therefore, continue to provide the GLBT community a safe, fun, friendly and comfortable state-of-the-art sports-themed gay bar for all to enjoy. 1 Gary J. Gates & Jason Ost,
