Sidelines Supports Inaugural Fort Lauderdale Gay & Lesbian Film Festival

Fort Lauderdale, Florida – April 20, 2008 - Sidelines Sports Bar is proud to support the launching of the very first Fort Lauderdale Gay & Lesbian Film Festival. Presented in conjunction with the 10th Annual Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, the organizers of the event thought it appropriate that the community of Fort Lauderdale have its own gay and lesbian film festival. More than just a day at the movies, the film festival hopes to bring through the medium of film, the many faces and facets of our beautiful GLBT community.

The festival runs from May 1 – 4, 2008 with its opening East Coast Premier of Ask Not, a riveting new documentary that focuses on the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy of the U.S. military. The opening event takes place at the Parker Playhouse with a Gala Reception & VIP Party for Passport Holders before the screening. Throughout the weekend, the festival continues with 15 more feature-length and short films Friday and Saturday at the Sunrise Cinemas Gateway, featuring a huge variety of subjects. On Sunday, the Festivals’ finale film screening of Call Me Troy, hosted by the Sunshine Cathedral, portrays the life of community activist and founder of the Metropolitan Community Church, Troy Perry. A luscious brunch proceeds the film’s screening at the Sunshine Cathedral at 11:00 AM, and Call Me Troy will be presented at 1:00 PM. Later in the year, tentatively scheduled for July 2008, Sidelines will host an after-screening event of one of the festival’s monthly screening series.
