Fort Lauderdale, Florida – March 17, 2008 – In their first foray into the gay community, the Florida Panthers hockey organization, along with the Gay and Lesbian Community Center of South Florida (GLCCSF) and Sidelines Sports Bar, put on quite a show at the yesterday’s thrashing of the Atlanta Thrashers at the Bank Atlantic Center. “A Night on Ice”, as it was being promoted, was an innovative fundraising event with proceeds benefiting the GLCC. Hockey fans were treated to a Pre-Panther party at Sidelines Sports Bar, where owners, Laurie Whittaker and Marty Kildea presented a free drink coupon to ticket holders; free bus transportation to the game, skybox admission and seats, beer, and a deluxe buffet. The entire day’s sports package was well-worth the $75 for each ticket.

“Awesome!”, “what a great time!”, “how fun was this?”, “can’t wait to do it again!” was some of the positive feedback after the game. All enjoyed the campy fun and thrilling competition as newfound hockey fans celebrated the win with their gay friends. There was a special moment of pride when Florida Panther’s mega jumbotron screens welcomed Sidelines Sports Bar and the GLCCSF.
