Fort Lauderdale, Florida – January 23, 2008 – The Sidelines Cyclones, the “C” Open Division softball team sponsored by Sidelines Sports Bar, recently traveled to Orlando, Florida for the 9th Annual Orlando Meltdown Charity Softball Tournament and won First Place in their division. Congratulations to the Cyclones in their first win as First Place Champions in a tournament!

The Cyclones are members of the South Florida Amateur Athletic Association (SFAAA), Fort Lauderdale’s gay and lesbian softball league. This was the team’s inaugural win in a major out-of-town tournament. The Cyclones have been in existence for less than two years and are eager to compete in the SFAAA’s upcoming spring 2008 season. Team Captain, Jon Sanchez and Manager, Rob Chaw, were instrumental in organizing and recruiting players for the team at its creation. The team now has ten players who consistently compete each season along with pick-up players that bid for a position on the team when the Cyclones travel.

They are an amazing group of men and women who love the game and love to compete”, said Laurie Whittaker, co-owner of Sidelines. “We congratulate them on their big win and look forward to many more!” added Marty Kildea, Sidelines’ other co-owner.

In honor of the Cyclones’ championship win, Sidelines Sports Bar is hosting a congratulatory party for the team on Sunday, January 27 at 4:00 PM. The team and their fans have been invited to Sidelines to celebrate their victory with the club’s staff, owners and patrons.
